Learning and support
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is responsible for the curriculum, Kindergarten to Year 12, for all NSW schools.
For the high school years, NESA develops syllabuses for all subjects in 8 key learning areas:
- creative arts
- English
- human society and its environment (HSIE)
- languages
- mathematics
- personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE)
- science
- technological and applied studies (TAS).
NSW schools also offer special religious education and special education in ethics via approved providers, where available.
Like all NSW schools, we have developed teaching and learning programs to suit our local context and the needs of our students.

Stages of learning
There are 6 stages of learning from Kindergarten to Year 12. High school covers Stages 4 to 6.
- Stage 4 includes Years 7 and 8
- Stage 5 includes Years 9 and 10
- Stage 6 includes Years 11 and 12.

Gifted and talented
Gifted students are those whose potential is distinctly above average in one or more of the following areas of ability at school - intellectual, creative, social and physical. Our gifted and talented programs provides these students with learning opportunities on top of the normal curriculum.

Creative arts
Creative Arts provides students with opportunities to build their knowledge and contemporary understanding of Visual Arts, Photography, Music, Drama and Dance. Please refer to the following pages for information about each subject.

English
English is the study and use of the English language in its various textual forms. These encompass spoken, written and visual texts of varying complexity through which meaning is shaped, conveyed, interpreted and reflected.

History
Our students can choose from a range of History courses.

Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
Randwick High School currently offers Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish language courses.

Mathematics
The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10. By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE)
Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.

Science
Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

Social sciences
Social Sciences offer knowledge, explanations and analysis of the activities of people within both their human and natural environments. The subjects delivered at Randwick High School incorporate a large section of the Humanities umbrella, embracing the specific subject areas of Geography, Commerce, Economics, Business Studies and Legal Studies.

Sport
Sport is an integral part of our school culture, offering students the chance to develop teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills. It is an opportunity for students to engage in a unique environment outside the classroom, facilitating strong relationships and wellbeing.

Technological and applied studies (TAS)
The Technology (Mandatory) course is studied for 200 hours, typically in Years 7 and 8. Technology (Mandatory) is the foundation course for a range of elective courses in the Technology learning area.
